LURC 2015

On the afternoon of Friday May 29th the department celebrates one of the high points of the year, with LURC 2015 (Linguistics Undergraduate Research Conference 2015). This year’s conference takes place in the Stevenson Fireside Lounge and begins at 12:45pm. It features talks by Jake VincentValery VanegasMatthew Margulis, and Chantale Yunt, all under the guidance and mentorship of LURC coordinator Adrian Brasoveanu. The distinguished Alumnus address which ends the conference will be given this year by Aaron Steven White of the University of Maryland. Aaron graduated with the BA in Linguistics from UCSC in 2009 and is now completing his fifth year of doctoral study at Maryland, where he is co-advised by Jeff Lidz and Valentine Hacquard. His research centers on the relation between word meaning and syntactic structure and asks in particular how that relation can be used by children in the challenging task of learning the meaning of verbs. The program for LURC 2015 is available here.
