Introduction to Hispanic Linguistics to be Taught Next Quarter
The Language Program would like to draw your attention to a course being offered next (Spring) quarter, Introduction to Hispanic Linguistics (LAAD 150, Tuesday/Thursday 4:00-5:45). This course can be used as an outside linguistics elective for Linguistics and Language Studies majors. (However, a student cannot count both this course and Structure of Spanish, Ling 182, toward the degree.) The prerequisites are Spanish 6 (or Spanish for Spanish Speakers 63) or equivalent competency, and Ling 50 (Introduction to Linguistics). (Note: the catalog incorrectly lists Ling 111 or 112 as prerequisites. Email the instructor at ezyzik@ucsc.edu if this prevents you from registering for the course.) The course is taught in Spanish, and students learn the major properties of the Spanish language from a linguistics perspective. Topics covered include: phonetics/phonology, morphology, and syntax.
