Talk this Friday: Unicode for People who Care about Language

Ken Whistler of The Unicode Consortium will give a talk on “Unicode for People Who Care about Language” at 3.30 p.m. on Friday, October 24, in 210 Humanities One. Whistler, who has a B.A. in Chinese from Stanford (1972) and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from UC Berkeley (1980), has done research on Native American languages, Chinese, and Japanese, and has a great deal of experience in a range of software internationalization projects. An executive officer of the Unicode Consortium at its inception in 1991, he became a technical director in 2000. His current position is with Sybase, where he has responsibility for software internationalization and development. His talk should be of interest to all who have a stake in the development of standards for the digital representation of languages other than English.
