SLUGS AT AMP

Last weekend, PhD students Jérémie Beauchamp, Richard Bibbs, and Nick Van Handel traded the Pacific for the Atlantic coast to attend the 7th Annual Meeting on Phonology (AMP), hosted by Stony Brook University, on Long Island, NY.

Nick gave a talk on prosodic recursivity in Italian and its implications for the Match-theoretic approach to the syntax-phonology interface. Richard presented a poster on the role of laryngeal consonants in licensing vocalic contrasts in Chamorro, and Jérémie on his correspondence-based analysis of the alternations in the quality of epenthetic vowels in Kĩsêdjê.

The Stony Brook organizers created a positive forum with a fun atmosphere, giving rise to productive discussions.

The UCSC Linguistics Department is happy to be the host of next year’s edition of AMP, which will take place on September 18-20, 2020.
