AD HOC SEMANTICS TALK BY FLORIS ROELOFSEN THIS MONDAY

Floris Roelofsen, a frequent Linguistics Research Center visitor, will give an ad hoc semantics talk on Monday, January 28th at 2:00 pm in the Linguistics Common Room (Stevenson 249), entitled “An inquisitive perspective on meaning: the case of disjunction”. This talk will serve two purposes: (i) to (re)introduce inquisitive semantics and Floris’s work to the department, and (ii) to allow him to try out his job talk for Stanford and UMass.

S-CIRCLE TALK THIS FRIDAY

This Friday, January 18, at 4-5 pm, Donka Farkas and Adrian Brasoveanu will speak at the Syntax and Semantics Circle (S-Circle), presenting joint work with Floris Roelofsen. Their talk is called “Scales of Negativity”. The talk will take place in the Linguistics Common Room (Stevenson 249), and you can read the abstract here.

S-CIRCLE TALK THIS FRIDAY

This Friday, January 11, at 4-5 pm, Vera Gribanova (Stanford, UCSC PhD 2010) will speak at the Syntax and Semantics Circle (S-Circle). Her talk is called “Case and agreement in Uzbek nominalized clauses”. The talk will take place in the Linguistics Common Room (Stevenson 249), and you can read the abstract here.

At this week’s S-Circle meeting (Friday, Dec 7th, 11:30 pm, LCR) Anie Thompson will present her talk titled “Toward Understanding Japanese Argument Anaphors”.

At next week’s S-Circle meeting (Monday, Dec 10th, 3:30 pm, LCR)  Matt Tucker will present his talk “Diagnosing syntax-morphology interactions from clitic restrictions: The case of Maltese”.
